SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — A Korean language test returned to Yangon, the capital city of Myanmar, after a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A record-breaking 3,064 people took the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) on Sunday at the University of Yangon Hlaing Campus.
The test was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic, and the bloody crackdown by Myanmar’s military junta on anti-coup protesters.
The test’s return after three years, coupled with rising demand among young Myanmar people to go abroad, likely resulted in a high number of applicants.
Myanmar students are required to submit a certificate of TOPIK Level III or above to enter colleges in South Korea.
