SEOUL, Dec. 1 (Korea Bizwire) – The LEGO Group has launched a detailed replica of the Endurance, the legendary Antarctic exploration ship, to mark the 110th anniversary of its historic voyage, the company announced Sunday.
This 3,011-piece set faithfully recreates the vessel commanded by British explorer Ernest Shackleton during his 1914 expedition to cross the Antarctic continent. Although the mission ended in disaster with the ship’s sinking in 1915, Endurance remains an enduring symbol of resilience and adventure.
The model features towering masts with 10 sails fully unfurled, ready for departure. Its steering mechanism allows realistic interaction, moving the rudder as the wheel turns. Intricate details, such as the ship’s rigging, chains, and a red flag adorned with the Union Jack, add authenticity.
The ship’s deck can be lifted to reveal meticulously designed interiors, including crew cabins and a steam engine. The set also includes four detachable lifeboats, symbolizing the expedition’s dramatic escape, and a chain-linked anchor.
When fully assembled, the model measures 80 cm (31.5 inches) in length, 24 cm (9.4 inches) in width, and 47 cm (18.5 inches) in height. The set comes with a display stand and a commemorative plaque inscribed with the Endurance’s storied history.
