SEOUL, March 17 (Korea Bizwire)Sinkholes, dropping water levels at the nearby Seokchon Lake and frequent safety accidents at Korea’s tallest skyscraper have raised questions about its safety. To dispel concerns over Lotte World Tower, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year, Lotte Group is contemplating the establishment of a private office in the building for its General Chairman Shin Kyuk-ho.

According to retail industry insiders, there is a rumor inside the retail giant that General Chairman Shin will purchase the top floor of the building for his private office.

The tower has 28 floors dedicated to office space, and among them, the 108th to 114th stories will be called cloud 7, meaning seven floors of luxurious offices above the clouds. Shin is considering purchasing the 114th floor, the highest floor in the private office zone.

With General Chairman Shin’s purchase of the floor, Lotte Group expects that the worries over safety issues will diminish. In addition, the establishment of a private office shows the extent to which the group is focusing on the building’s construction.

Currently, the group is running a task force to monitor safety at the tower, and Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin visits the construction site weekly to check procedures and safety protocols.

However, Lotte Group has yet to confirm the rumor. A company official said, “It was just an idea to calm down the controversy over the safety of the building. The purchase of real estate for General Chairman Shin has not yet been decided.”
