SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – Korean agro-industry giant Maeil Dairies has launched a research center dedicated to research and development projects focused on muscle loss resulting from aging.
According to the dairy company on Tuesday, researchers at the newly opened research center will focus on studying and developing products for Sarcopenia, which refers to the gradual loss of muscle mass typically affecting people over 30 years of age.
Often caused by lack of physical activity and nutritional imbalance, people suffering from Sarcopenia can experience a number of difficulties in everyday life including weakened grip strength and decreased walking speed.
Experts recommend regular exercise and a well-balanced diet rich in protein to prevent Sarcopenia.
The latest move comes with Maeil Dairies looking to branch out into businesses targeting senior customers, as low birthrates and an aging population are changing the country’s demographics.
Maeil Dairies’ nutritional products have focused on infants in the past, but the company hopes to extend its product lineup to all age groups in the future.
