Mothers Visit Marine Corps Base to Check Food and Uniforms

SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Korea Bizwire)The defense ministry said that a monitoring committee composed of mothers of service members going through mandatory military service visited the Marine Corps’ 1st Division located in the southeastern coastal city of Pohang on Wednesday to monitor the food and clothes provided to the soldiers.

The monitoring committee, operating since 2014, tried samples of meals, cup noodles, rice noodles, juice and cereal being provided to members of the Marine Corps.

They also checked uniforms including octagonal caps, combat uniforms, ghillie suits and diving suits worn by the Marines’ reconnaissance battalion for special operations.

“This is the first time that the monitoring committee has visited a Marine Corps base,” said a government official.

“We hope that this visit can raise public awareness about the efforts to improve the quality of meals and uniforms provided to service members.”
