SEOUL, April 16 (Korea Bizwire) – A South Korean study has revealed that banana peel can help prevent obesity.
A research team from Kyungnam University studied the effects of banana peel on the number of fat cells, and found that substances extracted from banana peel can partially intercept differentiation into fat cells.
These substances inhibit the generation of white adipocytes, preventing obesity.
The research team compared the preventive effects of fresh banana peel and peel that was kept at room temperature for two days, which showed that substances from older, ripe banana peel are more effective in preventing obesity.
“As the banana peel ripened, substances called tannins decomposed to improve effects on obesity,” the research team said.
