SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Korea Bizwire) — As the MZ generation (a Korean term referring to millennials and Generation Z)’s interest in sports and outdoor activities grew during the pandemic period, hiking clothing trends are shifting from crude design and vibrant colors towards a so-called “gorpcore” look.
“Gorpcore” is a compound word created by combining the high-energy foodstuff “gorp” with normcore, a fashion trend characterized by average-looking clothing.
Gorpcore means an outdoor fashion style that can be used as everyday fashion wear.
According to the online fashion mall Musinsa, sales among gorpcore brands for the period from Nov. 1-29 doubled compared to a year ago.
In particular, the share of young people between 19 and 33 years of age among those who purchased Grailz multi-zipper bomber jackets and Salomon XT-6 shoes reached 78 percent and 66 percent, respectively.
BEAKER, a multi-brand store of Samsung C&T Corp.’s Fashion Group, released gorpcore clothing in collaboration with functional material brand Goretex.
Meanwhile, outdoor brand Kolon Sports is set to unveil gorpcore attire during this FW season in collaboration with sneakers edit shop Atmos.
The company said that gorpcore fashion is enjoying high popularity among young consumers, with the share of those in their 20s and 30s among those who purchased the new collection estimated at about 80 percent.
