SEOUL, Oct. 24 (Korea Bizwire) – International auction house Phillips is set to hold an auction preview for the first time in South Korea next month ahead of the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale scheduled in Hong Kong later this year.
Phillips, one of the major international auction houses alongside Christie’s Auctions and Private Sales, and Sotheby’s, is holding a preview of an art auction in Hong Kong in May at Paradise City in Incheon between November 26 and 28, the company said on Monday.
The preview will feature 17 of the curated art pieces for the auction in Hong Kong, including work from Georg Baselitz, Cecily Brown, Roy Fox Lichtenstein, and Yayoi Kusama.
Established in 1796 with headquarters in London, Phillips branched out into the Asian market when it first sold contemporary art and design pieces in Hong Kong back in 2016.
Industry sources believe the preview next month is the first step by the international auction house towards launching a South Korean venture.
“Between the spring and the summer, we are planning to open an office in the Hannam neighborhood in Yongsan District in Seoul,” an official at Phillips said.
