SEOUL, May 21 (Korea Bizwire) — Leggings are rapidly becoming popular as women use them as fashion items as well as “exercise clothes” and “daily wear.”
According to major online shopping mall Gmarket, sales of yoga and Pilates outfits including leggings jumped about 391 percent from March 18 to April 17.
NEOFLEXY leggings, which were introduced by local Pilates clothing brand Xexymix at the beginning of this year, have surpassed 1 million accumulated sales.
The COVID-19 outbreak has further accelerated the popularity of leggings. The demand for easy-to-wear garments when going out to local establishments or staying at home has increased as telecommuting has become more common.
In addition, the spread of the culture of “contactless consumption” caused by COVID-19 has also had an impact on fashion choices.
Leggings are highly flexible and easy to choose in size, so they are relatively easy to purchase online without having to try on.
“Leggings are not only worn as indoor sportswear for activities such as Pilates and yoga, but also can be worn during outdoor activities like hiking, so they have become very popular,” a fashion industry insider said,
