SEOUL, Dec. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), South Korea’s state overseas aid agency, announced that it has built vocational training centers for women in Kogon, Qorako’l, and Shofirkon in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara region.
These three districts have been known to struggle with high unemployment among women and have also been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The centers will train women undergoing financial difficulties following the coronavirus outbreak for various jobs including those in the beauty, sewing, bakery, nursing and IT sectors.
The Uzbek Ministry for Support of Mahalla and Family, in charge of providing for the country’s vulnerable citizens, plans to join hands with local civic societies to encourage voluntary participation from local residents and offer training aimed at the financial independence of those in vulnerable groups.
KOICA signed a memorandum of understanding with the ministry last September to support vulnerable groups in Uzbekistan affected by the pandemic.
