S. Korea to Extend Operation of Weather Satellite

SEOUL, March 13 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea will extend the operation of the country’s first geostationary satellite for two more years, the ICT ministry said Tuesday.

The Chollian satellite, which was put into orbit in June 2010 and initially scheduled to be in operation until March 2018, will continue its mission through 2020, the Ministry of Science and ICT said.

The satellite is used to monitor the weather and oceans, and to provide communications services.

Currently, South Korea is developing two second-generation Chollian satellites.
