SEOUL, Sept. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – With competition in the robot vacuum cleaner market intensifying, Samsung Electronics is seeking to differentiate its latest offering with advanced voice recognition technology.
The tech giant has integrated natural language-based voice recognition into its Bespoke AI Steam all-in-one robot vacuum, a move that reflects the growing importance of artificial intelligence in home appliances.
According to a survey by market research firm Open Survey, 48.5% of 400 potential robot vacuum buyers cited voice recognition as a factor influencing their purchase decision.
Last month, Samsung upgraded its AI voice assistant, Bixby, boosting its ability to understand context and respond to natural language commands across its AI-enabled home appliances.
The Bespoke AI Steam leverages this technology, allowing users to control basic functions and schedule cleaning sessions using conversational voice commands.
“Users can simply say ‘Clean in front of the TV’ or ‘Clean the bedroom’ to target specific areas,” a Samsung representative explained, highlighting the intuitive nature of the system.
The vacuum can also respond to more complex instructions. For instance, saying “Stop cleaning and schedule a clean for 10 a.m. tomorrow” will execute both commands.
Moreover, the device can control other smart home appliances connected via Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem. A simple “Turn off all the lights” command before leaving home will power down lights throughout the house.
Samsung emphasized that this voice control feature is particularly beneficial for older users who may find smartphone apps challenging to navigate.
While using an app to control the vacuum requires four steps — opening the app, selecting the device, choosing the robot vacuum, and pressing the clean button — a single voice command can initiate cleaning immediately.
