SEOUL, Oct. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics has reported a significant increase in sales of its ultra-large televisions, indicating a shift in consumer preferences towards bigger screens regardless of living space constraints.

According to data released by Samsung on October 20, sales of TVs 80 inches and larger have grown by approximately 15% in the first three quarters of 2024 compared to the same period last year. This growth underscores a broader trend in the television market, where consumers are increasingly opting for larger screens.

The company revealed that TVs 75 inches and above now account for about 45% of all Samsung TVs sold between January and September. Within this category, models 80 inches and larger make up 21% of total sales. Perhaps most striking is the surge in demand for the company’s 98-inch models, which saw sales jump by around 50% year-over-year.

“It appears that the ultra-large TV market, previously centered around 75-inch models, is expanding to include 80-inch and larger screens,” a Samsung representative stated. “We’re seeing a growing number of consumers choosing ultra-large TVs, regardless of their home or living room size.”

This trend reflects changing consumer attitudes towards home entertainment, with many viewers seeking more immersive experiences that rival those of movie theaters. The COVID-19 pandemic, which led to increased time spent at home, may have accelerated this shift.

In response to the growing demand, Samsung has launched a promotional campaign called the “Samsung AI TV Super Big Festa.” Running until November 30 at both online and offline stores nationwide, the event offers incentives for purchasing large-screen models.

Customers who buy a 98-inch TV can receive up to 1 million membership points, while those opting for an 85-inch model can earn up to 600,000 points.
