Seoul District Installs Eco-shelters at Bus Stations to Tackle Fine Dust

SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire)With increasing concern over fine dust sweeping over South Korea, the a district in Seoul has begun installing fine dust filters at bus stops.

Seoul’s Seocho District announced on Wednesday that it has installed Smart Eco-Shelters at two bus stops to protect local residents from fine dust, winter cold, and summer heat.

The entire bus stop has been covered with fortified glass, equipped with a temperature control system, air curtain, air purifying plants, heated seats, and smart touch screens.

The temperature control system will be in operation between 6 and 9 a.m. and 6 and 9 p.m. every day for those waiting for the bus to come during hot or cold weather.

An air curtain is installed at the entrance to prevent outside contaminants, such as car emissions or fine dust, from entering the shelter.

Smart touch screens display fine dust levels, temperature, noise level, and other indicators of the surrounding environment, as well as traffic information including the current location of various buses, and areas with heavy traffic concentrations.

The district plans to install five additional eco shelters at Banpo, Gangnam, and Express Bus Terminal stations within the first half of this year.

“We felt a district-level measure was needed to protect our residents from fine dust,” said Cho Eun-hee, head of Seocho District.
