SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul International Community Orchestra, a diverse orchestra consisting of 63 members from 29 countries, performed for the first time in the South Korean capital on Thursday in celebration of its foundation.

During a launch ceremony near Seoul Citizens Hall, which was held with the support of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and in time for the fourth Seoul International Community Orchestra Festival, 63 members with different backgrounds and stories gathered together to play music.

From a woman in her 20s who works for Google and a working-class man from Kenya to a German doctor in his 70s, each of the diverse musicians who were selected through YouTube auditions had a chance to introduce themselves and show their love for music.

It has been reported that members of the Seoul International Community Orchestra practiced on the internet together, through videos on YouTube. Conductor Antoine Marguier, who also created the United Nations Orchestra, sent videos to the orchestra members, which enabled them to practice wherever they were.

“In pursuing the universal goal of enriching life with arts, Seoul will play a leading role,” Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon said.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul International Community Orchestra is set to play this weekend at the Sejong Center’s Chamber Hall, with plans for the orchestra to reconvene every three years to hold a festival in Seoul.
