SEOUL, May 19 (Korea Bizwire) — Seoul’s Seondong district office said Wednesday it is introducing the country’s first policy of providing the younger generation with subsidies for hair loss treatment.
The district enacted relevant ordinances earlier this month to set up a legal basis for the initiative.
The ordinance defines ‘hair loss’ as a disease diagnosed by a doctor that comes with a symptom in which hair is missing where it should be present and provides ‘vouchers’ that fully or partially subsidize the cost of hair loss treatment.
Potential applicants should be residents who have lived in the district for more than three months and be under 39 years of age and diagnosed with hair loss.
The National Health Insurance Service reported that, 51.4 percent of all individuals receiving hair loss treatment in the country were under 39 years old as of 2020.
