SEOUL, Nov. 9 (Korea Bizwire) – Interest in “Dokdo Shrimp”, served at visiting U.S. President Donald Trump’s welcome dinner, has risen after Japanese officials criticized the seafood’s inclusion on the menu.
Japan’s testy reaction is due to the origin of the shrimp. Considered a luxury in South Korea for its relative scarcity and high price, shrimp are fished out of the waters surrounding Dokdo Island, which the Japanese claim as their own under the name Takeshima.

Flower Shrimp, Chicken Shrimp and Peach Blossom Shrimp are the casual names bestowed upon the three types of shrimp generally caught around Dokdo. Peach Blossom Shrimp were selected amongst the Dokdo Shrimp types for their size.
