SEOUL, April 16 (Korea Bizwire)A thief in his twenties habitually stole money and goods in residential areas without CCTV. As he didn’t leave any trace of his burglaries, the police found themselves in a helpless situation. However, a smartphone photo taken at one of the crime scenes helped investigators to finally make an arrest.

On April 15, the Saha Police Station in the southeastern port city of Busan indicted the thief surnamed Lee on charges of stealing or trying to steal 3.1 million won worth of money and goods at four houses in Busan from April 29, 2014 to March 23 of this year.

According to the police, Lee, working as a delivery man, wore gloves and chose areas with no CCTV coverage to avoid detection, and managed to escape from the police dragnet.

However, a tip-off from a resident who happened to take a photo of him after he failed to climb over a wall of a house on April 29 last year helped the police spot him.

The police verified his identification and confirmed his crimes by analyzing footprints at three crime scenes where Lee committed theft.
