South Koreans Spent 5.6 Billion Minutes on Facebook in April

SEOUL, May 12 (Korea Bizwire) – South Koreans spent 5.6 billion minutes on Facebook last month, topping the list amongst all social media apps, according to the latest report from WiseApp. The app analytics company based its study on 23,663 Android users in the country, excluding iPhone users.

Following Facebook was Naver’s Band, a mobile community app, at 2 billion minutes, and Naver’s Café (social community platform) at 1.3 billion minutes. Instagram ranked fourth (1 billion minutes) and Kakao Story (900 million minutes), fifth. 

Facebook, however, saw its usage numbers drop for fourth consecutive month, the company added, from 6.6 billion minutes in January to 5.9 billion minutes in February, and 5.8 billion minutes in March. 

Teens and 20-somethings were dominant users of Facebook, while 40-somethings and above preferred Band as their primary social networking medium. 

Meanwhile, South Koreans spent an average of 165 minutes on their smartphones, using roughly 9.7 apps each day (from May 1 to 7), WiseApp data showed. Teenagers spent over four hours (4 hours and 3 minutes) per day on average, followed by 20-somethings (236 minutes), 30-somethings (196 minutes), 40-somethings (160 minutes), and those in their 50s and above (87 minutes).
