SEOUL, June 10 (Korea Bizwire) — Starbucks Korea, the local unit of the U.S. coffee giant, is tapping into the delivery market.
The number of Starbucks outlets offering delivery services increased from six to 25 on Tuesday, with the company hoping to reach 80 to 100 stores offering delivery services in the Seoul and Gyeonggi region by mid-June.
Starbucks’ entry into the delivery market is seen as a desperate attempt to find new sources of income amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Starbucks Korea’s sales last year amounted to 1.93 trillion won (US$1.73 billion), up 3.1 percent but failing to reach the company’s target of 2 trillion won. Operating profits came in at 164.4 billion won, down 6.1 percent on year.
