SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — When it comes to part-time jobs, the quality of the work trumps everything, until it doesn’t. Online recruiter Albamon (“alba” means part-time work) conducted an informal survey by asking 4,711 job seekers to define the qualities that make a job a “god alba”.

At 52.6 percent, “Fun work that I enjoy doing” took pole position. Next in line were:

  • Work for an “angelic” boss (32.4 percent)
  • Work for a high salary (26.4 percent)
  • Work experience that will look good on my resume (22.9 percent)
  • Work close to home (19.6 percent)

Analysis of the responses showed that there were slight differences in the hierarchy of preferences depending on gender. Female respondents showed a higher preference for “work close to home” and “work for an ‘angelic’ boss” than male respondents. Female responses for the two categories were 12.6 and 8.7 percent higher respectively. Men showed a higher proclivity for “work for a high salary” than women, measured at 6.4 percent.

The results may need to be taken with a grain of salt, however. When asked what is taken into consideration when choosing a job, the most important aspect of work was wages (30.3 percent). Also important were:

  • Type of work (26.0 percent)
  • Location of work (19.1 percent)
  • Duration of work (13.3 percent)
  • Personality of boss (7.5 percent)
  • Type of coworkers (3.3 percent)

When asked what qualities of a job would be a “turn off”, 47.7 percent responded with “low wages”. Other popular responses included:

  • Overbearing boss (43.4 percent)
  • Poor working conditions (39.1 percent)
  • Difficult and exhausting work (26.4 percent)
  • Location of work (23.9 percent)

Judging from the responses, it appears that wages are still a major factor in job choice for part-time workers.
