Tuned Car Racing Competition to Be Run First Time in Korea

SEOUL, Oct. 25 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy announced on October 23 that it would hold the first drag racing competition for tuned cars at a racing track of the Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts Promotion Institute in Daegu City on November 15. The event is part of plans to promote the car tuning industry in South Korea.

Drag racing is a kind of motor sports in which automobiles compete to be the first to finish a 400-meter track, which is especially very popular in the United States.

A lot of drivers applied for the competition from the 15th through the 21st, among whom a total of 100 motorists with his or her tuned vehicles plan to compete with each other. On the day, racing cars which hit the best record or achieve a set time in 400-meter contests will take the first place.

Highly tuned vehicles are going to compete in the best lap game, in which domestic tuned cars called K-class and foreign tuned autos dubbed I-class will separately do their own fights as imported cars such as Porsche and Mercedes-AMG are higher-powered than local brands.

In the time attack match with the goal of encouraging participation of amateur drivers, relatively low tuned cars will compete.

The event is held at the track which is internationally authorized for the first time in South Korea in the drag racing field, and the competition itself is planned to be endorsed by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, or International Automobile Federation.

In order to run the racing event safely and effectively, 42 members of the Korea Automobile Racing Association will work as technical, safety and recording staff with police and fire authorities in the city.
