SEOUL, March 2 (Korea Bizwire) – Chinese media have reported that a couple of pandas promised to Korea at the Korea-China summit of 2014 will be arriving at Incheon airport on March 3.
The two-year-old and three-year-old panda couple will depart China from Chengdu International Airport in Sichuan Province on a special Korean Airlines charter. After arriving at Incheon airport, the panda couple will go through a health check, and be presented to the public in April after an adaptation period of one month.
The arrival of the panda couple will mark the first time in the past 22 years that Chinese pandas come to Korea.
The pandas are headed for a zoo at the Everland theme park. Chinese officials explained that the three-year-old male is cheerful and outgoing, while the two- year-old female is gentle.
Chinese president Xi Jinping decided to present the pandas to Korea for joint research purposes at the 2014 summit. Sichuan Province is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its wildlife sanctuary devoted to panda protection.
