Universities Hold Offline Graduation Ceremonies For First Time in 3 yrs

SEOUL, Aug. 23 (Korea Bizwire)Major universities in Seoul are bringing back offline graduation ceremonies this summer following the end of social distancing measures.

The University of Seoul held its 2021 fall semester graduation ceremony on Monday, which was attended by some 1,000 people including graduates and their families.

The offline graduation ceremony was held for the first time in three years following a hiatus necessitated by the the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the hot weather, graduates were seen wearing their graduation caps and taking photos with family members and friends throughout the campus.

Konkuk University also held a graduation ceremony on the same day, with some 400 graduates and family members in attendance.

Vendors lined up in front of the campus gates selling flowers and bouquets, with photographers and graduation veil vendors dotting the campus.

“An online graduation ceremony would not have felt like a real graduation ceremony,” said Ko Won-im, the 58-year-old father of a graduate student.
