SEOUL, May 18 (Korea Bizwire) — Affordable and convenient food options are gaining popularity during lunchtime due to the increasing cost of eating out. Gimbap and boxed lunches have become popular choices among convenience foods, thanks to their convenience and reasonable prices.
Recent data from convenience store CU reveals that Gimbap holds the highest sales share, accounting for 31.4 percent of total sales during lunchtime. Triangle gimbap follows closely at 28.1 percent, while boxed lunches make up 23.3 percent of sales. Sandwiches, salads, and hamburgers account for 10.3 percent, 4.9 percent, and 2.0 percent respectively.
Interestingly, despite boxed lunches being known for their cost-effectiveness, Gibap, which is generally cheaper, records higher sales. This suggests an increased price sensitivity among consumers due to inflationary pressures.
Boxed lunches claim the largest share of sales at 29.6 percent, with Gimbap (23.6 percent) and triangular gimbap (21.6 percent) following closely behind. Salads account for 13.3 percent of sales, sandwiches 9.8 percent, and hamburgers 2.0 percent.
