CHUNGJU, Nov. 8 (Korea Bizwire) – The city of Chungju has gone viral, or more specifically, its marketing efforts have gone viral, as its promotions uploaded onto social networking sites have enjoyed explosive popularity.
Completely upending the preconceptions associated with government, the city’s marketing exploits have even the caught the eye of tech giants Facebook and YouTube (Google).
According to Chungju, Facebook Korea dispatched two representatives to the city to discuss online promotional activities with the PR team on November 7.
The previous month, members of Google Korea visited and were given permission to view the content creation process.
Public institutions and state-owned enterprises are likewise beating a path to the Chungju government’s door to learn the secrets behind the North Chungcheong city’s success.
Chungju revamped its public outreach methods in the latter half of last year by releasing unconventional promotional posters and funny news clips. The city has successfully broken free from the veneer of the grey, old-fashioned tedium young people associate with public servants and institutions.
Chungju’s Naver blog, with 1.8 million total views, was crowned “Blog of the Month” by Naver in July.
