SEOUL, Mar. 6 (Korea Bizwire) — K-Beauty is again making its name with Amore Pacific-invented ‘cushion compacts.’ A cushion compact is a compact-type cosmetic with a small pillow soaked with foundation that can be applied using a light touch. It was first introduced by Amore Pacific in 2008 through its IOPE brand, and has remained popular with Korean women for its sheer and moisturizing coverage.
As BB creams and CC creams sweep the beauty scene after huge success in the Korean market, cushion compacts are finally making their way onto the global market. Lancome has already launched its own version of cushion compacts in Europe, and started to sell them in Korea last month. Italian beauty brand Kiko also launched cushion compacts recently, to rave reviews.
Amore Pacfic saw the sales of its cushion compacts reach 900 billion won (US$ 816 million) in 2014. Although the company holds a patent for this type of cushion compact, other Korean beauty companies have been producing a variety of different models. Less expensive brands like Missha, Innisfree, Etude House, Tony Moly also have their own cushion compact lines.
