East Coast Cities to Live Broadcast New Year’s Day Sunrise

GANGNEUNG, Dec. 29 (Korea Bizwire)Cities on the east coast in Gangwon Province plan to broadcast live footage of the New Year’s sunrise for residents and tourists unable to visit due to COVID-19.

The city of Gangneung will open up a live broadcast of the New Year’s sunrise via its official YouTube channel at 7:10 a.m. on New Year’s Day for online viewers.

The YouTube live broadcast will be carried out without narration or commentary, allowing viewers to quietly witness the sun rising from Gyeongpo and Gangmun beaches.

The city of Donghae also plans to live broadcast the sunrise at Mangsang and Chuam beaches from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. on New Year’s Day via YouTube.

The live broadcast is part of the cities’ social distancing measures to prevent a massive inflow of visitors to the region to watch the sunrise, despite the cancellation of the sunrise festival.
