Furniture, Home Appliances Makers Vying to Create Customer Experience Online

SEOUL, Dec. 24 (Korea Bizwire)Furniture and home appliances makers, for which consumers have struggled to decide if size and color match well until such items are placed in actual spaces, are vying to bring offline retail experiences online.

Shinsegae Casa, a furniture brand of Shinsegae Department Store, unveiled an augmented reality (AR) service that enables customers to check if furniture matches well with their home or office by virtually installing it in advance.

As many as 700 furniture items have been rendered in 3D for customers to peruse.

Home appliance maker Coway Co. launched an AR service that shows 3D product images on a smartphone screen if users hold their smartphone on the area they want.

This virtual service allows customers to touch and operate the control menu of various products such as water purifiers just like they do with physical ones, while enabling them to purchase products instantly if they want.

Electronics retailer Lotte Himart Co. launched an AR service for about 300 different kinds of items starting from September last year, while LG Electronics Inc. started enabling customers to virtually arrange furniture through its mobile app in April.

Lotte Home Shopping Inc. expanded its AR service towards fashion accessories such as sunglasses and jewelry.

If users view their face on a smartphone screen after selecting the sunglasses they want on the mobile app, they can see their virtual face wearing the sunglasses they chose.
