JEONJU, Jan. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — Kongnamul gukbap, a soup with bean sprouts and rice, was introduced by foreign media as a great food for overcoming hangovers.
National Geographic UK included the soup as one of nine hangover cures from around the world.
Lauren Shockey, the author of “Hangover Helper: Delicious Cures from Around the World,” explained that South Korea has spawned an entire genre of hangover soups thanks to the very well established drinking culture.
“The morning after a night out, kongnamul gukbap is one of the most popular varieties to order, a tangle of bean sprouts, spring onion and sliced chilli in a light anchovy-kelp broth,” she said.
Bean sprouts are known as a classic hangover cure as they contain asparaginic acid that protects the liver and arginine that relieves the hangover.
