SEOUL, March 12 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest TV maker, has made a surprising comeback in the OLED TV market after withdrawing 10 years ago due to yield problems. The company recently introduced a new product that will compete directly with its biggest rival, LG Electronics, which has been leading the OLED market.
Samsung held a media experience event at its Seocho office on Thursday to unveil its new 2023 TVs, including the Neo QLED and OLED. The company’s latest OLED TV boasts significantly improved brightness, a feature that was previously a disadvantage of OLED technology. The company has added its own “OLED Brightness Booster” function and applied glare-prevention technology to reduce light reflection.
In addition to its OLED TV, Samsung also released a new product in its QLED TV line, featuring ultra-high resolution 8K video and a whopping 98-inch size.
The OLED TV market is expected to grow despite the economic downturn, and Chinese companies are expected to become strong competitors. However, Samsung’s return to the market is likely to solidify its position as the top player in the overall TV market, a position the company has held for 17 consecutive years.
LG, which released its new 2023 OLED TVs the day before Samsung’s event, welcomed its rival’s return to the OLED market. LG has been focusing on OLED technology for years, while Samsung shifted its focus to expanding its LCD-based quantum dot light-emitting diode (QLED) TV business.
With Samsung’s return to the OLED TV market, consumers can expect more options and competition in the high-end TV market.
