SEOUL, Sept. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Wednesday that it will introduce a new system to make it easier for taxi drivers to report to the police in emergency situations.
The city government plans to install a separate button on the standard taxi card readers found in cabs citywide.
Once the button is pushed, a text message including the driver’s contact and location information is automatically created and reported to the ’112′ police emergency line.
At present, taxi drivers usually have to rely on other citizens to report incidents when they are exposed to violence while driving since it’s difficult for them to call 112 under such circumstances.
In the meantime, the city government also plans to subsidize the installation of partitions that separate drivers from passengers in the rear seat for 500 corporate and private taxis by the end of this year.
