SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — Special bonuses will be given to doctors, nurses and other medical workers in charge of treating COVID-19 patients.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said Thursday it had set up new guidelines for special bonuses to be provided to medical workers in charge of managing the pandemic.
The special bonuses will be provided to workers in charge of treating coronavirus patients suffering from both mild and severe symptoms, both at ordinary or epidemic-exclusive hospitals.
The value of the bonus has been set based on the job’s difficulty, frequency of entering in physical contact with patients and exposure to possible infection.
Medical workers in charge of the transfer or decontamination of patients will be paid 20,000 won (US$16.57) per day. Those engaging in frequent contact with patients will be paid 30,000 won per day.
Doctors and nurses responsible for the surgery, treatment, and care of COVID-19 patients will be paid 50,000 won per day.
The KDCA plans to give out the daily bonuses based on the number of days worked over the first half of this year. The distribution period may change depending on the pandemic situation.
