SEOUL, Sept. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — Seoul Metro, the operator of the Seoul subway system, said Thursday it will expand the operation of a private warehouse service at subway stations.
This service is a kind of personal self-storage service enabling users to store and reclaim a variety of goods ranging from camping items and seasonal clothes to small home electronics and furniture for an indefinite period of time.
At present, a total of 13 service stations are operating with a high utilization rate of 87 percent.
Seoul Metro has expanded this service steadily to enhance space efficiency as well as to create a new income stream. Starting this month, it added 11 service stations, bringing the total number to 24 at 20 subway stations.
In selecting the sites, the subway operator prioritized areas with a high share of single and four-person households.
Moreover, to offer more options to users, Seoul Metro added a 0.15 pyeong model in addition to the existing 0.3 and 0.5 pyeong models.
The newly-introduced model is optimized for single-person households who want to store only small packages at a reasonable price.
