SEOUL, Feb. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – Kim Jung-Wook and Lee Chang-Geun, two men protesting against Ssangyong Motor’s 2009 layoffs on the rooftop of a 70 meter-tall smokestack at Ssangyong’s Pyeongtaek assembly plant, have chosen not to descend to spend their Lunar New Year holidays with their families. The protestors said, on February 17, that they would not leave the place that they have occupied for the past 67 days until the layoff issue is solved.
Another set of men protesting against the labor policies of their respective companies, LG Uplus and SKT, are also expected to pass this Lunar New Year at the top of a 20-meter tall billboard tower. Kang Se-Woong and Jang Yeon-Yi have been have been on strike since February 6.
One fired worker, who has been on a strike for 267 days, is also staying in place this Lunar New Year. Cha Gwang-Ho, representative of the committee for the reinstatement of laid-off workers from Star Chemical, has been protesting against the company’s dismissal of 228 employees in 2014, on the rooftop of a 45 meter-tall plant at Gumi National Industrial Complex.
