SEOUL, Apr. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — An acupuncture technique to reduce facial wrinkles has proven to be effective following a clinical trial on 107 individuals.
Doctor Joe Jin-Hyoung at Kwangdong Hospital of Traditional Korean Medicine said on April 21 that the hospital’s medical team conducted acupuncture treatments to reduce wrinkles around the eyes and mouth on 51 Koreans and 57 non-Koreans from May 2011 to February 2014.
The team evaluated signs of improvement on patients one month after their treatment, and concluded that the technique reduced the patients’ number of wrinkles by five to eight percent on average.
The team’s acupuncture technique involves acupuncture needle points inserted into layers of the skin 0.5 to 2.0㎜ deep. The team explained that needles inserted in that way can stimulate cells to produce collagen and elastin in the skin.
Doctor Joe said that the results showed that only one acupuncture treatment could be effective in reducing wrinkles. She also said that the team’s treatment does not leave harsh after-effects on patients’ skin other than bruises.
The team’s results were published in a recent issue of Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
