PYEONGCHANG & HAMYANG, South Korea, Feb. 25 (Korea Bizwire) – The first signs of spring have emerged in Odaesan National Park, where Adonis amurensis, commonly known as the Amur adonis, has begun blooming amid the lingering chill.
According to the Odaesan National Park Office, the bright yellow flowers were observed on February 25 in the Jinogae area, where patches of snow have melted to reveal fallen leaves. The discovery was made during a seasonal bloom monitoring event conducted alongside citizen scientists.
Adonis amurensis is a key harbinger of spring, known for thriving in rocky, forested mountain areas. Its vibrant yellow petals bloom singly at the tips of stems, while its purplish sepals are nearly the same length as the petals—one of its distinguishing features.
“Visitors walking through Odaesan’s fir tree forest and Seonjae Trail in March can expect to see a variety of wildflowers, including Amur adonis, hepatica, and windflowers,” said Choi Young-chan, director of the park’s Resource Conservation Division. “We hope these blossoms provide a rejuvenating experience for hikers.”
Elsewhere in the country, the arrival of spring was evident in South Gyeongsang Province’s Daebongsan Recreation Valley, where Amur adonis flowers pushed through melting snow, signaling the changing of the seasons.
