SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – South Koreans spend more than two hours using smartphone applications every day on average, a study showed Tuesday, with teenagers being the most app-dependent generation among the age groups surveyed.
The survey taken by Cheil Worldwide, an advertisement arm of Samsung Group, showed that the average South Korean spends 2 hours and 23 minutes using smartphone apps on a daily basis.
The study was based on 4,442 users logging on to 70,000 different apps over the August-September period.
Teenagers spent 2 hours and 50 minutes using smartphone applications, boasting the longest time among the age groups. The comparable figure for those in their 50s was 1 hour and 28 minutes.
Of the average time, 35.6 percent was spent on social-networking services and messengers, while 36.7 percent was spent on entertainment content, such as games and videos. News-related content and searching for information followed at 19.4 percent.
Users activated applications 83.7 times a day on average, and spent 1 minutes and 43 seconds per activation, Cheil added.
South Korea with a population of 50 million boasts the fourth-highest smartphone penetration rate in the world with the figure standing at 83 percent as of end-March.
The country is also home to Samsung Electronics, which was the world’s top smartphone seller with a market share of 24.1 percent in the first quarter of this year.
