SEOUL, Korea, Feb 24 (Korea Bizwire) – What are the promising small business items these days? Most people who resigned from corporate positions tend to flock to self-employed businesses such as franchise fried chicken restaurants or convenience stores. In addition to being too competitive, these businesses take too much initial investment cost, with requirements to invest more in regular intervals in interiors and others.

The most important conditions for small business are that the initial investment burden be not too onerous and that sustainable for a relatively long time. In addition, the business owner must be able to enjoy the daily work itself. There are not many business items that can meet these conditions. But water sports-related businesses may be promising in that the market is growing rapidly for the past several years. Including the 6-million fishing hobbyists, as well as a few million water-skiing and kayaking devotees, there are 8 million leisure sports enthusiasts in Korea.

Even though most recreational fishing fans prefer sitting in one place catching freshwater fish, a rising number of hardcore sport fishermen go out on the sea in a boat. With this trend, the demand for kayaks is also on the rise. Officials at Green Ocean Life and Club Yachtie, Korea’s largest ocean sports goods purveyors, said that the sales of kayaks increased more than 200 percent in 2013 from the previous year. It is expected that this year will see the growth rate to surpass 200 percent or even 300 percent level.

The recent trend is toward opening up beach-side kayak rental operations, village-level companies, water-sport schools, camp sites, and training centers. Given the fact that kayaks can double as fishing boats as well, the number of people buying or leasing one will continuously rise.
