SAMCHEOK, Mar. 7 (Korea Bizwire) — The city of Samcheok in Gangwon Province, which opened the ‘Era of Cave Tourism’ by developing the Hwanseon cave, recently announced plans for the construction of a new suspension bridge.
Samcheok plans to invest 3.5 billion won (US$3.1 million) in the project to transform the entire Tongri Valley into a comprehensive tourist destination by 2022.
The theme of the tourist attraction will be ‘thrills’. The main attraction presented to tourists will be a suspension bridge built across the valley.
The so-called ‘Grand Canyon of South Korea’, the Tongri Valley is 300 meters deep. The bridge will be 320 meters long and 130 meters high in front of Miin Falls, which is located in the upper stream of Tongri Valley.
The bridge will soar above the valley at an altitude of 700 meters. From the bridge, tourists will be able to view Miin Falls, as well as High 1 ChooChoo Park, a railroad theme park.
As an official from Samcheok puts it, the floor of the suspension bridge will mainly be made of glass, making the bridge one of the most thrilling themed tourist attractions in South Korea.
The bridge will also have a glass sky walk which will reform the theme park into a thrill-themed tourist attraction.
The city of Samcheok is expected to welcome 350,000 to 610,000 visitors in 2023, when the theme park opens for the first time.
