SEOUL, Jan. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — A growing number of South Koreans are jumping into the food delivery business as cases are being reported of delivery personnel earning high incomes.
Experts estimate that there are now more than 400,000 ‘food delivery bikers’ in South Korea to cope with spiking demand for food delivery following the coronavirus outbreak.
Earning a high income at a food delivery job isn’t easy – the top earners complete around 100 deliveries every day.
A delivery rider who earned 1,917,350 won (US$1,770) in just seven days made 477 deliveries, which equates to completing 5.6 deliveries every hour for 12 hours every day.
Only few delivery riders are known to earn high incomes, since it requires work without rest.
Some of them even take on the risk of speeding and other traffic violations to complete more deliveries.
Industry watchers claim that high income falls short of being a good reason to get a job as a delivery worker, and that it requires thorough consideration.
