SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Korea Bizwire) — The government plans to boost the distribution rate of the e-navigation service designed to provide information on marine traffic, weather and collision risk, to 45 percent of the nation’s vessels.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said Thursday that it will implement the ‘e-navigation service enforcement plan’ as part of the action plan to carry out the ‘basic intelligent marine traffic information service plan’ that was formulated last year.
First, the ministry aims to increase the share of ships using the e-navigation service to 45 percent, as well as to reduce the number of marine accidents by 20 percent this year.
To this end, the ministry plans to support the installation of e-navigation equipment for 1,445 privately owned ships, as well as to expand the coverage of the optimal route service that is now offered only through the e-navigation application, to all ships installed with an e-navigation terminal.
In addition, the ministry plans to distribute small radio transmitters from the latter half of this year aimed at enabling small fishing boats to use the e-navigation terminal.
Starting from June, the ministry plans to provide a variety of safety information, including the sea areas with a higher risk of colliding with floating materials and undersea areas with buried cables.
