JEJU, May 26 (Korea Bizwire) — A Fairy pitta bird that crashed into a building’s window in Jeju on May 15 has been released back into the wild.
A wildlife rescue team at Jeju University had been treating injuries to its head and legs, and released the healed bird into a forest in Jeju on May 25.
Fairy pitta birds, which are a natural monument in Korea and are internationally recognized as a near-extinct species, originate in the tropics, and are known to visit Jeju from May to October as they only feed their offspring with earthworms such as those that densely populate rainy Jeju.
As skyscrapers are becoming more common in the city, the need to raise awareness about decals which prevent birds from flying into windows is increasing.
