SEOUL, Dec. 10 (Korea Bizwire)The chief of the military’s Defense Intelligence Command has been suspended from his duty Tuesday, the defense ministry said, the latest in a spate of suspensions of military commanders in the aftermath of a botched martial law declaration.

“The defense ministry has transferred Army Maj. Gen. Moon Sang-ho, chief of the Defense Intelligence Command, to suspend his duty over his confirmed involvement in the current situation,” the ministry said in a notice to reporters.

The ministry said Monday it is verifying suspicions that personnel from Moon’s command entered the National Election Commission’s office in Gwacheon, just south of Seoul, last Tuesday when President Yoon Suk Yeol abruptly declared martial law.

Local media earlier reported that members of the Defense Intelligence Command filmed the commission’s computer servers at the office, raising questions over their motive.

The ministry has suspended five other senior military personnel amid a widening probe into their roles in the martial law operation, including the commanders of the Capital Defense Command, the Army Special Warfare Command and the Counterintelligence Command.
