BUSAN, June 27 (Korea Bizwire) — Blood reserves have sharply declined across the country due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, which is a cause for concern among local medical institutions.
Against this backdrop, the Dongnae District Office in the southeastern port city of Busan initiated Blood Donation Day to encourage local residents to donate blood.
Blood Donation Day is observed on January 6 and June 9 every year, targeting individuals between the ages of 16 and 69 who are eligible to donate blood.
Blood donation buses are stationed at various public institutions, including the district office, police stations, education support offices, and community centers, to improve accessibility for blood donors.
To encourage participation in blood donation, the district office provides a gift card along with a souvenir from the Busan Blood Bank to those who donate blood on Blood Donation Day.
As a result of these efforts, the district successfully achieved its target of attracting over 1,000 blood donors, with the final count reaching 1,004.
Particularly, high school students exhibited a strong fever of participation.
