SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Korea Bizwire) – On January 22, the Korea Development Institute (KDI) stated that it ranked 9th in a survey of global think tanks carried out by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP), an affiliate of the University of Pennsylvania.  If the United States is included, it ranks 49th.

The TTCSP, led by Professor James McGann of the University of Pennsylvania, has been announcing the rankings of global think tanks every year since 2006.

The 2014 survey examined 6681 think tanks from countries across the globe.  Among these, 1106 (16.71%) were from the Asian region.  In Korea, 35 research institutes, including the KDI, participated in the survey.

The KDI’s ranking rose by 5 steps from the previous year, in which it ranked 14th.  It received the highest evaluations for 2 consecutive years among the main national research institutes in Asia.

Among research centers belonging to the government, the KDI captured 8th place overall.  This is a ranking that has risen by two places compared to the survey in the previous year.

President Kim, Joon-kyung of the KDI said, “The policy alternatives for structural changes and the institutional improvements of our economy will be continuously presented.  For this, the quality levels of policy research will be improved by invigorating human exchanges and joint research with prominent international organizations, including the OECD, IMF, and the World Bank.”
