SEOUL, Jul. 29 (Korea Bizwire) – In a groundbreaking technological feat, Samsung Electronics announced on July 28 that it successfully used its Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones to live broadcast the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

This innovative approach was the result of a collaboration between Samsung, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS).

The Paris Olympics made history by holding its opening ceremony outside of a stadium for the first time.

The highlight of the ceremony, the Parade of Nations, took place on the Seine River in the heart of Paris, with athletes from participating countries riding on boats.

To capture this unique spectacle, Samsung installed over 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra devices on 85 parade boats, ensuring high-quality, real-time coverage of the athletes during their 6-kilometer journey along the Seine.

The tech giant’s involvement extended beyond just broadcasting. Athletes were provided with Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition smartphones, allowing them to capture and share their personal moments from the parade with family, friends, and fans.

Samsung’s Olympic contribution doesn’t end with the opening ceremony. The company revealed that Galaxy S24 Ultra devices will also be used to broadcast upcoming yacht races.

These smartphones will be installed on participating yachts, with the footage transmitted in real-time through base station boats positioned at sea.

To prepare for this ambitious live broadcasting endeavor, Samsung conducted rigorous technical tests over approximately 360 days, involving more than 100 experts.

The company also developed specialized software to optimize the transmission of ultra-high-definition video.
