Twitter Korea Announces Analysis Results of Pope Francis’ Tweets

SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — Just ahead of Pope Francis‘ visit to Korea on August 14, Twitter Korea announced analysis results of the Pope’s tweets. The Pope is famous for being an exclusive user of Twitter among all social networking service tools.

According to the analysis of 221 tweets posted by His Holiness for about ten months from October last year to August 10 this year, the most frequently mentioned words were “God” (46 times), “love” (33) and “pray” (32). The most commonly used hashtag was “#prayforpeace” in light of the recent flare-up in the Middle East.

In terms of target group, tweets to young people took the largest portion of 10 messages. The tweets typically started with “To young people” and asked the youths not to lose hope and keep challenging. He also encouraged the youths not to be obsessed with material wealth and turn their attention to the underprivileged and oppressed.

In an April 19 tweet, he said, “Please join my prayer for the victims and their families for the Sewol ferry boat.” The tweet was retweeted 12,000 times, the 15th most tweeted among the Pontiff’s messages in English.

Currently Pope Francis’ Twitter accounts are run in nine languages including Spanish, French, and English with a total of 14 million followers worldwide. His tweets generate an average of 10,000 retweets, one of the most influential Twitter accounts in the world.

A Twitter Korea official said, “Many Koreans expect the Pope to send out a special message of hope and love in Korean during his visit in Korea.”
