SEJONG, Apr. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — The Korean National Fire Agency (KNFA) said on Wednesday that it will distribute video instructions on resuscitating dogs, cats, and other pet animals to local fire stations to ensure the safety and health of pets in emergency situations.
The agency decided to educate firefighters on cardiopulmonary resuscitation for pets to prevent missing the ‘golden time’ to rescue animals in danger.
On March 19, a firefighter successfully rescued and resuscitated a cat found in an apartment fire in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.
The agency plans to compile similar cases and consult with animal experts to open a special course on rescuing pets at the National Fire Service Academy.
“Pets are increasingly being regarded as part of the family, and we want to respect that,” said the KNFA.
“We will develop various videos and manuals for distribution so that firefighters will be well aware of what to do when they have to rescue pets.”
