JEJU, Aug. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — South Koreans are scrambling to move to Jeju Island following the second wave of the coronavirus outbreak.
The Statistics Korea’s population mobility data showed that 568 people left Jeju Province in the first quarter this year, which was reversed after 705 people moved to Jeju in the following quarter.
Jeju is one of two regions among 17 cities and provinces across the country to see a consecutive inflow of population for three months from April to June.
As the coronavirus situation worsens, citizens from across the country are seeking to take refuge in the region with the fewest number of infections.
Jeju had only seen 26 confirmed coronavirus cases as of Wednesday, which is only 0.16 percent of the total number of infections across the country.
